What is a root canal?
Root canal therapy, often simply called a root canal, is a treatment used to restore a tooth that has become seriously damaged or infected. If decay and damage go untreated, or if the tooth is severely injured, the dental pulp may become infected. The pulp is the innermost layer of the tooth that includes tissues, nerves, blood vessels, and more. When pulp infection is left untreated, it can result in the death of the tooth and often necessitates tooth extraction. In order to prevent the need for extraction and to improve the health of your smile, our dentists may recommend a root canal in Spring, Texas. During this treatment, Dr. Calder and team remove the infected tissues from the tooth, thoroughly sanitize the tooth, and fill the tooth with a medicated material. Finally, we place a restoration on the tooth to restore its structure and strength; a crown is often needed.
